Chatuchak Weekend Market | Bangkok

Chatuchak Weekend Market-the largest weekend market in Bangkok, operated with more than 8,000 stalls. This is the shopping heaven for all women. A shopping area popular for both locals and tourist. Chatuchak Weekend Market is divided into 27 sections and every sections contains stalls that sell same or similar range of products like plants, clothes, furnitures and many more.

How to get there:
Take BTS to Mochit Station, walk around 5 mins and you will reach Chatuchak. You can also follow the crowd as everyone is going to the same destination.

I actually printed the map and bring along with me. I used the map to make some notes so that when I come back again, I could find those shops. With the map, it actually help us to find toilet, food outlets and the entrance. The place is so big that you could actually get lost especially for first timer.

Many many clothes stalls

Bags and Souvenirs

One of the street was covered by colourful umbrella

If you are looking for porcelain plates and cups, here is the shop.

Brother bought his ship clock in this shop. This shop selling mostly decoration of ships.

The clock tower in Chatuchak.

Happily shopping!

The chef actually posed for us. Bravo!

What to eat in Chatuchak?

1. Coconut Ice-cream
We spotted in one of the section. A lot of stalls are selling this famous Coconut Ice-cream, so we can't differentiate which is better. We picked this one because in front of the stall is a resting place with benches. We took the opportunity to rest while enjoying the coconut ice-cream.

Coconut Ice-cream-35 baht
The ice-cream is very refreshing especially in a hot day. We just can't have enough of it! We were also given a small cup of coconut water to clear our mouth after eating.

2. Ice Tube
Ice tube-10 baht
We spotted another ice-cream cart selling those ice tube. You can actually find this in Malacca Jonker street. There are around 8 flavours-coke, orange, strawberry, and others. Another way to cool down ourself after hours of walking.

3. Thai Food
Since it is around lunch time, we picked one of the restaurant that have air-conditional to dine in as everyone was too hot to dine in any humid area.

The restaurant is quite small, the table that was given barely can fit 4 person but luckily we are not too big size, we still able to squeeze together.

Lovely orchids were used as decoration for the drink

We order Green Tea but it came out to be tea in bright green colour. Didn't taste anything awful, we still able to drink it.

Shrimp Spring Roll- 120 baht

Tom Yum Gong- 200 baht

Deep Fried Grouper Fish with Sweet & Sour Sauce- 350 baht

Fried Chicken with Cashew Nut in Taro Nest- 150 baht

Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables and Black Mushroom- 100 baht

I was shocked and admired the flower decoration that they used for each of the dishes. The fresh flowers are so beautiful when display, Mom even wanted to bring it home.  Overall the food is quite nice and the price is very reasonable as well especially for place that is filled with tourists. High recommended!

Asiatique the Riverfront | Bangkok

Asiatique the Riverfront is no stranger to anyone who have been to Bangkok and it was also listed as one of the must visit place in any recommended Bangkok travel itinerary. There are few ways for you to get to Asiatique and I chose the experience of taking the boat.

How to get there:
Take BTS to Saphan Taksin station and take their free shuttle boat. Just follow their signboard and you will get to the place to take the free shuttle boat.

We took the boat to Asiatique around dinner time. The whole place was lighten up and he managed to capture this beautiful scene from the rocking boat!

There are 4 districts in Asiatique which are Charoenkrung district, Town Square district, Factory district and Waterfront district. The 4 districts are divided into 10 warehouses. You can check out the full map here.

There are more than 1000 outlets from shopping to dining and entertainment. You can mostly find everything here.

What to have for dinner? We picked this Chic Grill restaurant that served seafood in Thai style since we found this place is less pack than others. And the food turn out to be quite good.

Although it is packed, we managed to get a table within 15 mins. This Chic Grill is located at Warehouse 6, one of the corner lot.
We can't actually pick the seafood from the cart and it is more like for display purposes.

Fresh Coconut
We just can't resist and order fresh coconut for every meal when we are in Bangkok. Most of the coconut served in the restaurant is chilled. We just love when it is cold!

Deep Fried Calamari- 160 baht
The calamaris are fried till golden brown and crunchy with lemon dip. It is very appetizing but the downside is the portion, rather small.

Seafood in Hot and Sour Clear Soup- 250 baht
We ordered the clear soup instead of the chilli red tom yam. This soup looks rather simple yet it need skill to balance the combination of sourish and spiciness. And this dish does make it to that level, it doesn't give us a burning sensation at all but rather mild and tasty.

Wok Fried Mud Crab in Curry Powder- 600 baht
This is their highlight dish and most expensive dish of all. We couldn't deny but agreed it is the best curry crab sauce we had so far. Although the crab they used isn't great but still fresh, the gravy is the actual the highlight that make the overall dish worth a try.

Steamed Sea Bass in Spicy Garlic and Lime Sauce- 400 baht
Thais loved to use sea bass to cook this dish. We ordered almost every meal we had and we found this doesn't come out much our expectation. The garlic and lime sauce is a bit mild and leaving the whole fish taste flat (tasteless I would say).

Wok Fried Morning Glory with Oyster Sauce- 140 baht
I was recommended that when come to Asiatique, the must visit shop is actually the snack stall. If you are looking for local snacks, here is the place where you can get the best price of all places. You can get local snacks like Tao Kae Noi Seaweed, cashew nuts, Koh Kae peanuts, Pocky and many more. You will be surprise this place is always packed with tourists.

After a long haul, looking for taxi to go back hotel? There is a taxi stand where you need to pay a service charge of 20 baht to the counter, all taxi from the taxi stand will go by metre. You don't have to worry on getting cheat by taxi driver, and there are plenty taxi queuing at the entrance. For those taxi driver who follows metre, we always give them extra tips as reward of their honesty.

Roast Cafe | SeenSpace, Bangkok

I came across this place when searching for some nice cafes in Bangkok, it was highly recommended and was featured as one of the top 5 cafes in Bangkok. So, I didn't think much and straight away put into my Bangkok itinerary.

Roast cafe is located at Scene Space, a 2,500sqm lifestyle mall around 100 metres on the left along Soi 13 at Thong Lor. There are two ways you can get there; easiest way is to take a taxi from BTS Thong Lor or you can walk from Sukhumvit about 15-20 mins (which what we did and regretted).

When we arrived, it was about 2pm. We were expecting the cafe to be empty as it has passed the lunch hour for weekday. But to our surprise, it is packed and fully occupied, we have to wait for about 15 mins outside since we didn't not make any booking. I would recommend to make a booking if you are coming on weekends.

The newspaper-style of menu caught our attention to explore their menu in detailed. For coffee lovers, Roast offers a range of in-house roasted varieties, hot, cold or blended. Other than caffeine hits, they do serve a selection of delicious comforting dishes too.

Iced Chocolate - 120 Baht
I ordered Valrhona Chocolate - a premium French Chocolate drink. It's sweetness and bitterness are perfectly balanced, it is thick but not murky, yet it can withstand the melting ice after quite some time. Just perfect!

Lychee & Orange Smoothies - 150 Baht
He ordered this, which was blended with milk and with a hint of peppermint. It's really good, quite refreshing after walking for a while outside. The only downside is that he wished that the portion is bigger so he could enjoy more of it!

Espresso Latte
After the main course & dessert, he felt something was missing even though we're in a cafe. I know, our noses were constantly filled with the aroma of coffee, yet how can we not try any of their coffee at all??! So he pulled the menu again and ordered this Espresso Latte. It's special because the coffee are the ice cubes themselves. You pour fresh milk and any amount of sugar into the cup according to your liking.

He says, this drink really is the product of a genius. The Coffee-ice melts very slowly, so it isn't too overwhelming at first, as though it slowly invites you to the land of coffee until you suddenly decide to bite on the ice... then the bitterness shoots you through the sky and you realise, this is the real deal! =) So many sensations you can get from this one cup of coffee.

Grilled Flank Steak with Salsa - 400 Baht
The beef was grilled exactly to medium well as ordered, which was rather surprising since this is actually a cafe, not a steakhouse. He says this is great, and he was craving for more! No traces of food was left on the plate, yep, even those crunchy leafy bits which actually goes quite well with the beef. Mexican and salsa lovers definitely will love this dish.

Pulled Pork Burger - 320 Baht
The picture of this burger looks irresistible, and thats actually true! The pork meat was quite a chunk, the bread is a work of art, and it really does taste the part! Fries were golden crispy, low in salt yet garnished with spices. Their attention to detail I think, is absolutely crazy.

Stuffed French Toast with Cranberry - 240 Baht
This is one of the instances when we felt really bad for touching the food, because it was simply too beautiful! It looks like a snowy mountain, but you know you shouldn't leave it as such for too long, because the toast is hot, and the ice cream is cold. When combined together it messes up your senses (in a good way) and before you know it, you're already reaching for the second bite. If the frosting and corn flakes ain't sweet enough, you can add the honey/syrup to make this dish almost too sinful to be called a dessert. It's hard to describe such a complex yet wonderful taste, definitely worth it to have come this far.
