Seo Gung Korean Restaurant | SS2 (CLOSED)

Browsing through some blogs the other day and saw some good comments on this Korean Restaurant. At the same time, I was craving for Korean food. *ta-da* I knew immediately what I should have for dinner that day. Seo Gung Korean BBQ restaurant is located at SS2 which is same row as Yu Yang Sang and just above King's Confectionery. Every easy to spot the place.

The design of the place's layout was simple with tables and floor sitting arrangement. Nothing fancy at the place. I went around 7.30pm and the place was not packed at all during Saturday. They provided a few types of BBQ combo meals according to the number of guests and also a variety of ala carte.

We ordered the BBQ combo 4 which is cost RM79. It included Samgyeop-Sal, Dak-Galbi, Kimchi-Jigae and Dolsot Bibim-Bap. In case you are new to these words, do not worry, I will explain it one by one below.

When having meal in Korean Restaurant, no matter what you order, always come with some small side dishes which can be refilled. It is actually complimentary dishes so it is free! In Seo Gung, they provide 10 small side dishes like the above photos. Some Korean restaurants only provide 6-8 side dishes. Banchan named in Korean for side dishes. Banchan in different Korean Restaurant will serve differently, it is not fix to the same ingredients except that you will surely find Kimchi in every Korean's side dishes. All the side dishes taste not bad which I managed to finish it all without refilling.

Samgyeop-Sal is sliced pork belly which it is grilled at the dinner table. It will come with some big onions to be grill together. No oil was used in the hot plate as the pork belly will produce the oil itself which won't stick to the hot plate. Don't worry, the meat won't burned.

For your information, all Korean Restaurant's table come will grill hot plate. In case you are wondering if you have to DIY the meat, let me tell you. Please Do Not DIY, they will have waiter to grilled it for you and cut into pieces so that you can be served like a King. You just have to sit back, relax and watch to enjoy your meal.

Dak-Galbi is marinated chicken ribs which is also a grill dish that is popular in South Korea. It is marinated with their own recipe's sauce.

If you do not know what to do when you saw a plate of lettuces and you remembered that you did not ordered it. Let me tell you, lettuce and raw garlic come together when you order samgyeop-sal. It is use to wrap the meat to consume. A common way to consume is to place a slice of the cooked meat on a leaf of lettuce with some side dishes and dipping sauce (chilli paste), then to roll it up in the leaf and eat it. You can even add it some rice depends on your preference.

Gyeran Jjim is Korean steamed egg with normally eat with banchan. The steamed egg taste great but just a bit hard in the inside. I still prefer light and smooth steamed egg.

Dolsot Bibim-Bap is one of the Korean's signature dish which mean mix dish. It is served in a hot stone bowl with a layer of rice at the bottom, some seasoned vegetables and a fried egg on top. You will have to mix it together before eating. I don't really like it as it taste very dry. The overall taste still acceptable.

Kimchi-Jjigae is one type of Jjigae (some kind of soup with lots of ingredients either with seafood, chicken , pork, beef or vegetables). Kimchi-Jjigae is made with kimchi and other vegetables ingredients. It taste similar to the side dish-Kimchi except that it is now cooked with soup base. If you personally do not like Kimchi itself, I do not think you will like this either.

For drinks, we order green tea which cost only RM2. Overall, the combo meal we ordered are far more enough for two persons to consume. I think 3 persons are more suitable for the combo. Anyway, the rice are not included in the combo meals, you can order it separately which is RM5 per bowl if not mistaken. The price was quite reasonable, I will still come back for more soon. :)
