This wasn't my first time to visit this place and in fact I used to come over here every few months for taiwan food before I head back to University.

Xiao Bar Wang Taiwanese Street Snacks | One Utama

Accidentally discovered this place when I was looking for food in One Utama. This is a franchise shop started by an artist named Jeff Wang (famous in Singapore's movie). It is basically a shop serving authentic Taiwanese street food. For more info about the background, view here.

It is a small shop located at the lower ground floor near to all the food stalls. What attracted me was their big pictures of Taiwan food in front of the shop. Those pictures just stuck into your mind and immediately you imaging what to have next just by looking at their board.

The range of choices are limited, however it do covers the famous Taiwanese delicacies like the fried chicken, mee sua and braised pork rice. I love about Taiwan food is that they always come in set meal which ease the process of choosing ala carte.

Set Meal C: Braised Pork Rice with drink-RM 9.90

The braised pork taste so dry as if it has been laying there for hours. Although the portion of braised pork is more than the rice portion, it just doesn't add value to the taste. I could said the worst braised pork rice I ever had so far.

Set Meal D: Bento rice with drink- RM12.90

For bento rice set, you are allow to choose between chicken, fish and pork for the meal and we chose pork. The fried pork was hard to chew, I guess the pork meat was not tenderise before it is cook. Moreover, the rice was hard and it make it so hard to go through the throat.

Mix Crispy Chicken and Fish-RM8.90

We gave another try on their crispy chicken and fish and it just disappointment so badly again. The crispy word just doesn't tie with their deliverable. Moreover, it was too salty until we gave up finishing it.

I really wish this was a good place for me to have Taiwanese snacks as they promoted in their videos. However, I don't see it worth coming back again with that kind of quality and taste.

Pick Me Up | Kuchai Lama (CLOSED)

After a heavy dinner with my girls, one of them started to suggest we go for second round since she will not in KL for sometimes now. She introduced us a new place she found to have some special tall dessert. We used to come here for snowflake every few weeks. Now, where is the place? It is located at Kuchai Lama a shop named Pick-Me-Up which is just the same row with the famous fish head beehoon and opposite Snowflake. It is a new shop started since last year December.

The concept of the place is similar to snowflake except they do sell some snacks other than dessert only. You fill up your stomach with same light snack here while enjoying their dessert too.

Again, they use the same device as snowflake for us to collect our dessert and snack when it beep or light up. I like this kind of device which enable the customer to wait patiently for their food and notify them once it is ready.

Taiwanese Tower-RM12.90

This is the one we came for. It is their premium ice pick and also what attracts people to pay a visit here. It is their 19cm ice shave with red bean in between. It came with barley, glass jelly, black pearl and taro ball to go with the ice shave. Sweetness was just right, nothing much to shut for as all the sides are just normal except that it is place in a tower shape that make it an icon. Give it a try for an experience.

Ding Tai Fung | Pavillion

Din Tai Fung- a world famous restaurant over 10 countries. Everyone should know by now that Din Tai Fung is famous for its Xiao Long Bao which is a soup-filled dumpling with at least 18 delicate folds. So far, I have not try it out yet as it is always packed during weekend. After seeing interview about Din Tai Fung by Xiao Yan Jie, I can not stop myself to have it a try. It is really that good?

I went on Friday after work at Pavillion's outlet. The place wast packed, but we are lucky to get a place when we reach.

Lo Hon Kor 罗汉果-RM3.80

Herbal tea after a hot day, not very sweet, just nice for me.

Xiao Long Bao 小笼包(6 pcs)-RM9.80

A must try dish when you visit this place. Xiao Long Bao was served in hot. The skin was thin, just nice to chew. Put the whole xiao long bao into the mouth, one bite, the soup will flash out into our mouth. Second bite, you can taste the tender meat which taste really nice. Delicious! I like the thin, translucent skin that wont break off when you use the chopstick to pick it up. It will stick onto the chopstick nicely.

Pork Chop Fried Rice-RM15.50

The pork chop is marinated with the Chinese 5 spice powder which is quite strong. I do not like the taste as it  smell kinda strong. The fried rice taste very normal, not quite up to my standard of a normal fried rice. It use egg, garlic and rice only. It do not have the fragrant of fried rice.

Shrimp Pork Fried Rice-RM15.00

The fried rice taste as the pork chop fried rice with added pork strips and shrimp. Although, my friend recommend that fried rice was good in the Taiwan's outlet, but Malaysia's outlet doesn't seem to get it right I think.

Golden Pumpkin with Salted Egg-RM10.80

It is deep fried slice pumpkin with salted egg. It is a bit salty but overall taste quite nice and unique.

Shrimp and Pork Shao Mai (6 pcs)-RM13.80

The skin was a bit thick compare to Xiao Long Bao. The technic use to make Xiao Long Bao is the same as this except they make the shape a bit different which can add a shrimp on top of it. When you eat, there is also soup inside the filling but the taste of the filling a bit different from Xiao Long Bao.  

So far, only the Xiao Long Bao that impressed me. For other signature dishes, I can find much more better than those. I do not think there is anything good to shout about. I guess Malaysia have too many type of cuisine and good food we can find.

Yummy Taiwan | Fahrenheit 88

I was shopping with Mom in Fahrenheit88 and we were finding a place to have meal after shopping. Then we bump into this place since Mom was not in mood to have Sushi that day. It is located at the corner with long walking alley before you can reach the place, but luckily they understand the situation and placed the menu and flyers before the walk in alley so that at least people notice the place. I was attracted to the design and decoration of the place more than their promotion.

Currently, they are having a promotion- Buy 1 and get 2nd same or lower price item at 50% when you flash their coupon. However, I wasn't having any coupon that day but I still get to enjoy the discount. You could get the coupon on the counter or outside the restaurant. Even if you don't have the coupon, they still offer the discount for you.

The variety of the food provided wasn't that much compare to most of the Taiwan Restaurant.

Bubble Milk Tea-RM4.90

The look of the milk tea is a bit brownish and it taste like cocoa with milk more than milk tea. The pearl wasn't that springy(a bit soft..=( ) compare to other bubble milk tea stall.

Osyster Mee Sua Set Meal-RM 9.50

Mee Sua was not bad but I don't see any osyster inside, maybe it was too small. Instead I ate a few pieces of  pig intestines if not mistaken because it has very strong smell of pork. I think the intestines really spoilt the soup because of the smell. I personally quite sensitive on the food smell. Besides, the set also came with two small side dishes-beancurb skin and boiled taro with tuna. The side dishes weren't that nice at all. The beancurb skin (I'm not really sure about that) taste kind of weird. The tuna instead contain very strong fishy smell however the boiled taros were very nice and springy when you eat it. I guess they need more improvement in the side dishes.

Hot Crispy Chicken Rice Set -RM11.50

I like this dish. The Crispy Chicken was very big piece with chilli powder on top. It wasn't spicy like it look to be. The timing of deep frying the chicken was just nice which make it taste quite nice and crispy on the outside.

Anyway, dining in are subjected to 10% service charge without government tax in this restaurant. The price of the food I could said it is quite reasonable especially in KL area.

台湾风味情(Taiwan Fast Food) -One Stop Midland

I have a gathering here after the place we supposed to held no electricity. Taiwan Fast Food is the name of the restaurant. There is 2 outlet for this restaurant- Gurney and Midland. We went to the Midland Park outlet because I recall the place is not that crowded and suitable for us big group to have gathering. It is located at Pulau Tikus opposite Adventis Hospital. I like the place, cozy and warm, just nice for a cup of tea after a busy day.

I like this drink section especially when I order for pearl milk tea, I can see how the waitress there use a special machine to make the milk tea...and it come with a sound..gong gong gong..

Currently they are having a promotion for member card holder, for any 4 set meals you order, you will get a side order for free. To be a member card holder, you just have to pay RM5 for whole life and you can enjoy 10% discount for all food and drink every visit.

The meal came with set and ala carte. Most of us order set because it is came with a drink (6 choices), a soup, a dessert (cake) and main dish. Here are the sets we have ordered, besides we get 3 free side dishes since we have order 14 set meals. Just a recommendation to you all if you visit here, try the pearl milk tea, it is thick and taste very good. I was impressed when I first taste it, better than Chatime milk tea that I loved.

台弯风味小食 Taiwan Food

This is my second time to visit this place after introduced by a friends. This stall is located at a corner kopitiam but I didn't take note of the name.:( Anyway, it is located at Sg Nibong, again under the bridge to Queensbay.   So, let us see some of the photos I took.

I like the food in this stall, suit my taste. I also try the minced pork rice before (my friend said very nice) but I still think it has much too improve. The taste is not enough, after few spoon, the taste became flat. I recommend everyone to try it. It really worth!
