Roast Factor Glee | Bukit Utama

Recently, my brother and I started hunting on cafe that served hand brewed coffee. We love to try out different types of hand brewed coffee, but unfortunately there isn't a lot of cafes in KL/PJ that serve hand brewed coffee compared to espresso coffee.

Roast Factor Glee is a cafe that serve hand brew and cold brew coffee which is what we are looking for. They also specialise in roasting their own coffee beans in-house. It is a small cafe located in The Club at Bukit Utama, nice quiet little place to do nothing but enjoy coffee during the weekends.

It isn't very eye catching at first glance from the outlook.

The available coffee of the day were written on the wall with the description of the aroma and taste. You can always ask for recommendations from the barista if you cannot make a choice. I love to request the barista to recommend based on my preference on that day.

Bread and cakes counter. One of the recommended buns is the brioche with strawberry jam and danish butter.

Hand Pour: Pour Over- RM 20
Guatemala Los Cerritos was our choice of coffee for hand brewed. It is said to have the mild taste of milk chocolate, pleasant rounded body and melonish acidity. The body of the coffee wasn't strong but overall it was still fine and light in taste.

Cold Brew: Black no Regret- RM 18
We chose the Rwanda Inzovu coffee bean as our choice for cold brew. There are three types of bean to choose from for cold brew. If you like a cold light coffee, this will be your cup of coffee.

Mom's pancakes-RM 15.00
The fluffy pancakes are topped with bacon bits and two smoked streaky bacon, served with their strawberry tomato artisan jam and is a hearty breakfast you should get to start a day. However it is only available on Weekends which gave us one more reason to come over on Sunday morning. I love their unsweetened strawberry tomato jam, giving a light taste to the honey coated pancakes.

Love their coffee? You can purchase their in-house roasted bean to make your own coffee at home now.

If you are looking for dessert to bring home. You can get their premium ice-cream with 6 flavours available.

Uncle Tetsu Cheese Cake | One Utama

I was informed by my brother yesterday that the Japanese Cheesecake chain is in One Utama, however the grand opening is on 25th Oct 2014. So, I was thinking to try out my luck, probably they will open one day earlier for testing and I might grab one home. And I am right, they are open for business before their grand opening!

Just for your information, Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake is originated from Japan and was founded 20 years ago by Mr Tetsushi from Tetsu Global Ltd. Their first shop was in Fukuoka, Japan and by years they expanded to over 45 outlets around Japan before they expand other countries. Good news is they are now in KL, you don't need to fly to Japan or SG to get one now.

Their signature cheese cake is selling at RM19.90 each. If I'm not mistaken, SG is selling 10 dollar.

Another range of cheesecake they are selling in the stall named as Cheese Zuccoto. The cheesecake smaller in size but the texture is more moist and dense.

Their kitchen behind the stall. You can see big ovens behind, no doubt of their hourly fresh baked concept they promised.

Freshly baked cheesecakes hot from oven

Uncle tetsu logo was stamped on each cheesecake by the staff.

Sunflower Homemade Cakes | Tanjung Bunga

I love layer cake and never stop searching for good layer cakes everywhere I go. I went Bali, Bandung, Melaka and etc just to source for it but just could not find the right one. Before making the trip back Penang, I coincidentally browsed through a blog on layer cakes in Penang. Oh yeah! My instinct told me " Yes, this is it!" We grab our GPS and just went... It actually took us more than 30 minutes to find the place because our GPS failed to locate the place. But thank god I was still able to find the place just about when we finally decided to give up and go home; it just decided to suddenly appear in front of us, believe it or not! It is actually located in the middle between some big buildings, that is why we couldn't spot it out although we have been passing through the area for few times.

It is a small cake shop located at Jalan Tanjung Bunga. I guess Penang people will know about this place. Besides, they have another outlet at Lorong Hutton, Georgetown. Layer cake was my main purpose to be there. By looking at the photos below, you can see there are 4 type of flavours- Original, Almond, Chocolate Chip and Prune. Prices are based on the weight of the layer cakes, like 250gm (RM 13.50), 500gm (RM26.00), 1kg (RM 50).

Other than layer cakes, they do sell cakes and bread like normal bakery. Maybe I will try the others on the next trip.

So, I bought two 500gm layer cakes- Almond and Original. How does it taste? Splendid! The layer cake might look hard at first but it is actually soft when you chew it. The sweetness is moderate, just nice for people like me who do not consume high amounts of sugar. Most importantly, the layer cake is moist and not very oily! I just simply love this! I'm going to get more if I am back next trip. Must Try!
I do not have to cross the South China Sea for layer cakes now! :)

Hokkaido Cake by RT Pastry House

Anyone hear of RT Pastry House? It is famous for its cakes and pastries. I went to Pavillion the other day with my brother. He spotted the stalls at Tokyo Street, just in front of Daiso. Many people was surrounding the stall. Everyone is buying the Hokkaido cake. It really look very nice, see below photos.

We bought 1 box of Hokkaido cake-original. They have Strawberry flavour too and recently on 1st of April they have launched another new flavour which is chocolate flavour. They are having a promotion for the new flavour for RM8.50 (NP: RM9.80)- 3 pieces a box.
 6 pieces for RM16.80
It is make into small pieces like a cupcake but bigger in size. How good is the cakes? It is as delicious as how it look like to be. It taste like butter cake but creamy inside. The cake was very very very soft. One bite smelted in your mouth with the cream add more spice into your day. Do I need to praise it so well? Oh yes, because it is too good not to have it!

Look at the soft and smooth skin, I just can't help myself to finish it off in one go. Anyway, the cake can only be keep for 3 days under cold temperature of 2-5 Degree Celsius. It is all fresh made and of course you have to freshly consume it.

You can log in to the website to place an order or even visit the shop (4 outlets in KL). For more info visit http://www.rtpastry.com/

Tong Kee Bread & Tarts | Sri Petaling

I don't really fancy about bread but today I just bump into this bread shop because of the unique shop name- bread & tarts. Mom insists to go in to have a look after we had our lunch at Hailam Kopitiam. The environment is nice, very comfortable when walk inside. The most attractive place is the cakes, so colourful with some light tricks. We bought some bread and tarts of course (the shop name has stated tarts for sure have to try it!). So, I just found out that this shop I have visited is actually quite famous of its tarts after mention by my brother. Whoa.. I slightly missed it if not for mom who draw me back. So I got some photos from the net since I didn't take any for not knowing..silly me..
