Restoran Terapung Bujang Firefly | Johor

When we are in Desaru, we visited one of night attraction which is the firefly tour. The firefly tour start at 8pm. Instead of having our dinner at the hotel, we straight took at 20 mins drive from our hotel to the place. At the same area, there is a restaurant named Terapung Bujang Firefly that served decent Chinese style food. It is a halal restaurant operated by Malay owner. We actually had our dinner there before we took the boat out to see firefly.

Restoran Terapung means Floating Restaurant which exactly reflected where the restaurant is located.

There are plenty of seats available in the restaurant, simple wooden floor above the water. They also provide accommodation at the area where you can stay a night here.

Their menu comes in package of 2,3,4,5,7 and 10 pax. No ala carte provided. Therefore, you will need to order based on number of pax and each comes with a,b,c and d choice with different pricing. Visit here for their full pricing. I choose the 2 pax package that cost RM 65 with:
Jus Oren/ Orange Juice
Nasi Putih/ Rice
Tomyam campur/ TomYam Seafood Soup
Kangkung belacan/ Vegetable
Siakap Tiga Rasa/ Fried Fish with Sweet & Sour Sauce
Sotong goreng tepung/ Deep Fried Calamari
Telur Dadar/ Fried Omelette

I actually change the Tom Yam Soup to Non Spicy Clear Soup. The taste of their food surprisingly quite good. The portion of the dishes are enough to cater for 4 pax, however we have no choice as we have to order the package based on the number of pax we have even though we are small eater. That is the low side of this place.

After our dinner, we bought the ticket RM 20 from the cashier for the firefly tour. Here is the boat where you board on for the firefly tour. The tour took around 30 mins. It actually quite dangerous as you will be given normal plastic chairs to sit on inside the boat. Life jacket are not given to us to wear when departing instead it were kept on the roof.

One of the staff actually managed to capture one firefly and pass to my hand. It looks so small and bright. The place is so dark, we can hardly capture it with our camera without flash.

Although the place doesn't turn out to our expectation, however it is still a nice tour we have in Desaru. It is a great pleasure to be able to see those bright little fireflies near the river banks. I still remember I used to watch those fireflies outside my garden during childhood time, but now it all gone.

Lobster Village Seafood Restaurant 龙虾村海鲜酒家| Pantai Bersih @ Butterworth

Pantai Bersih recently becoming the preferred place to have seafood compare to Bukit Tambun. Bukit Tambun "used to be" and still the famous place to have seafood for those who have not discover this place, they have becoming very commercialize, quality of seafood has drop and price also increased dramatically due to over demand.

I was introduced by my colleague to this beautiful place where you can eat while enjoy the sea breeze. There are a few seafood restaurants along Pantai Bersih, however we choose this place because it is recommended, clean and price is reasonable too. There are parking lots in front of the restaurant which is free of charge but ensure you park at where you want to dine in. All the restaurants have eventually marked their own parking lots with boys guarding it. Just tell them where you want to dine and they will lead you the way.

The restaurant designed in a way there are covered and non-covered areas, mostly people will choose to dine on non-covered area which is nearer to the beach. Just check the weather forecast before your visit or your dinner won't be that fun anymore.

There are also long  garden tables placed along the beach which you can take off your shoes and enjoy the sand while you are eating. I came here twice and I always choose back the same area, I love beach especially it is under the moon rather than the sun.

When they served you tea, don't be surprise when they bring you a tea pot, tea cups and a flask. The flask basically is the hot water for your tea. They left the flask there for you to self-service, avoid the hassle of re-filling. Their quite famous dish is the lemon steam Gaba, unfortunately no Gaba for that day. *sad* You must try their Gaba especially lemon steam where only fresh Gaba can be cooked in this style. Super fresh and super no regret!

Spicy Fried Tan-RM15
The Tan is nice just a bit spicy on the other hand. Maybe I should try the lemon steam next time since Tan taste around the same as Gaba. The Tan was indeed fresh with fleshy meat popping around, it is not those "cut throat" restaurant that show you more empty shells than meat.

Salted Egg Deep Fried Sotong-RM12
I always love deep fried sotong, but normally frying with salted egg will make the taste sway over to salty but this is not the case. The taste just nice with crispy on the outer and juicy in the inner.

Stir Fried Potato Leaf-RM10
We didn't order the spicy belacan style since we have ordered a few spicy dishes. However, the stir fried potato leaf is still good.

Kung Po Fried Prawn Mantis Meat-RM15
I always like prawn mantis meat to fried with kung po. The taste is just irresistible compare to other style of cooking it.  The prawn mantis meat is fresh and they cook it just nice without too hard.

Baked Crab-RM28
As long as the crab is fresh, baked style is always the top of the mind if you wanted to taste the freshness. Only one complaint on the crab-the size. They served medium to small size crab, and they only have male crab. So don't expect to find large crab  with egg roll here.

Kam Heong Crab-RM28
The kam heong style doesn't really goes well with the crab. I recommend to try their chilli crab instead which is far more better.

Overall seafood is fresh, price is also reasonable, potion is big and the environment is super with the beach just beside you. Eating under the moon, romantic yet fun experience that you can find here. Highly recommended to try out!

椰园海鲜 Kedai Makanan Laut Kebun Kelapa | Klang

Me: "What is nice in Klang?"
Bf: " SEAFOOD!"
Me: " Okay, let's go!"

So, we brought my family to Klang for Seafood. This restaurant is quite famous around Klang for its clam bee hoon. We went for dinner around 6pm, the crowd hasn't started yet around that time. It is name Kedai Makanan Laut Kebun Kelapa (椰园海鲜). There are two sections-smoking and non-smoking area. Of course, we prefer the air-conditioned area.

Clams Bee Hoon- RM12.00
Famous clams bee hoon which is a must order dish. The bee hoon taste quite good, not very oily. My family love this but the potion for 5 of us was very very small. I guess the waitress wrote us 2-3 person potion since we did order quite a few other dishes. She did not see carefully we have 3 giants that day. :P

Deep Fried Calamari-RM22
The calamari just so-so only. It is crunchy but the taste very plain.

Fried Egg with Oyster-RM22
Another dish recommended by BF who love Oh-Jian very much. This dish was not bad, not so much of flavour included in the egg. There are lots of oysters inside but maybe they could be bigger, I don't know... some people prefer bigger oysters and some vice versa, for us this was fine. Overall, its still nice.

Crab-RM144 (3 pieces)
We chose to order giant crabs, and 3 pieces are already enough to stuff 5 of us. We ordered 2 types of cooking styles - a special salted crabs recommended by the waiter (I didn't catch the name) and spicy kam heong. The crab meat were thick, firm and fresh, very very nice indeed! No regret in ordering it. Absolutely a big treat for ourselves once in a while. :D

Kung Po Prawn Mantis-RM15
The prawn mantis seems like a bit overcooked because it is very hard. I guess the cook also add too much salt, make the whole dish a bit too salty to eaten by its own. It tastes just about the same as any other restaurants, nothing much to shout about here.

Overall I think it is a good place to have seafood especially the crabs, so far I couldn't find such giant crabs in Klang Valley for such a reasonable price. I will come back again soon for more........:)

Khunthai Authentic Thai Restaurant | Teluk Kumbar

We are coming back to Thai Food! This time I want to introduce you Thai Food in Penang. I went back Penang few weeks ago and found this nice and unique place in Teluk Kumbar. They have 4 outlets in total- Penang, Butterworth, PJ and Kepong. What is so special about the Penang outlet? It is located at beach side. Therefore, you have the choice either to sit in the restaurant or outside near to the beach side.

It is an open-air concept restaurant. All the chairs and tables are made from rotan, feels like Balinese concept for the interior. They even decorate with vintage style lamps all over the place.

For full menu (Penang Outlet), click here!

Herbal Tea (Jug)-RM10.00
Herbal Tea in Jug? Bottle more suitable for it.

Miaeng Kum (S)- RM10.00
This is a must try dish if you are in a Authentic Thai restaurant other than the Tom Yum. It come with Piper Sarmentosum leaves, shallots, chilli padi, ginger, garlic, lime, roasted peanuts, small dried shrimps and syrup. How you eat? You will have to wrap the leaf with a bit of all the ingredients given then topped with the syrup, that is it and put the whole wrapped miang kham into the mouth in one go! For the 1st time, you will feel very weird chewing on the leaf but when you continue chewing, the taste of the sweet syrup will come out and filled will very strong nice smell. You will eventually finish off without complaining of the leaf's smell!

Paku Belacan (B)- RM13.00
This is the paku-pakis that I love to order when I am in any Thai restaurant! Hard to find nowadays in the market except in some Malay stalls and Thai restaurants. It doesn't taste very spicy but just nice for everyone!

Mixed Seafood Tom Yum Soup (B)- RM 34.00
The main dish of the day! Red Hot Spicy Tom Yum Soup! Don't be afraid with the looks, it doesn't really taste that spicy, just a bit sour instead. A lot of prawns, fish meat, squids and mushrooms in there. They use charcoal to keep the soup warm, so you have no worry that the soup will go cold. Nevertheless, it is still not the best tom yum I have had so far.

Pandan Chicken (B)-RM18.00 ( 10 pieces)
The pandan chicken were quite small, it taste just normal.

Stir Fried Crab Curry- 1kg @ RM65
We ordered crabs since we are craving for seafood. The waitress told us that they have only the female crab that day. 1kg contains around 3 pieces of crabs. The curry crabs taste weird, not sure how they cook the gravy but it doesn't taste like curry, more like asam with curry mixed.

BBQ Crab- 1kg@ RM65
The BBQ Crab taste not bad but a bit salty overall. I guess I should have emphasized more on Authentic Thai dishes rather than seafood.

Deep Fried Calamari (S)-RM10.00
The fried calamari doesn't taste very nice. Not very crunchy.

Steam Fish with Soy Sauce- RM52
We also ordered a steam fish that day, worrying that the dishes might not be enough. It tastes like your regular chinese restaurant steam fish as we didn't order something spicy. The fish however is fresh and should be able to satisfy any regular family, but I do think that it is a little expensive. We will try some other aunthentic thai-style steam / fried / grilled fish on our next visit here.

Water Chesnut (S)-RM4.50
Of course, not forgetting the desserts that wraps up the meal for the day. It is shaved ice with a generous serving of assorted fruits and toppings with it. I would say that I don't really enjoy this dessert because  I don't like the strong nangka taste in it; my relatives however loved it very much as they said the nangka is the only reason why they ordered this. I guess for nangka lovers, go ahead, why not? For others, you can pass on this... the Ice is not shaved finely enough as well...

Will I be back again? Sure I will since I like the ambiance a lot. I will try out other Thai dishes next time, and will probably search for the PJ outlet soon once I'm back to KL.

Sekinchan Trip

Once again, I have reach the village of paddy plantation. This is my second time to visit Sekinchan, I have posted in 2010 post about Sekinchan but I did not mention much details about the food and the road trip. So this time, I will present a new post of Sekinchan trip I went with my bf and his friends. We depart from KL around 10.30am and reach there around 1pm. We stopped at a restaurant named Restoran Guan Hwat as usual. They are famous for the local as I know. They are 6 of us and the portion we ordered are for 4 pax which is suggested by the waitress.

Fried Lala- RM13.00
The Lala indeed very fresh and taste great with a bowl of rice.

Chilli Prawn-RM15.00
This is the must try dish. Every table will sure order this dish. I can ensure that you can't find any of this in KL. Small little fresh prawns cook with chilli. It is a bit spicy for those who can't take spicy food. But this is really NICE! Thumb up!

Fried Golden Snapper-RM17.00
Taste quite nice, I love it because the fish is fresh and do not have fishy smell. Good!!

Stir Fried Spinach-RM7.00

Restoran Guat Hwat
Lot 2942, Jln Bagan,Sekinchan, Selangor.
Tel: 016-6165346
Open from 7.00 a.m. – 2.oo p.m.Closed on Tuesdays

Next, we went to through the paddy fields. It is the season of growing for this time of period. Harvest period just past last month. We were searching for the soya bean drink in the middle of the Paddy Field which is sell by an old lady but unfortunately she did not open that day. So we went to the nearest and bigger temple at the Paddy field area.

Third Station: Bukit Malawati- Kuala Selangor
So we went Bukit Malawati to watch Monkeys again. Not like last time, we were force to drive up the hills as no trains were provided at that time. But this time, we went on Sunday, so we have to take a train that provided to the top of the hill and Fish Park that costs RM3.00 per person only.

We have reached!
The train that left us to the monkeys.

Warning: Don't carry any food or beverages with you, or you will get attack by the monkeys!
Monkeys' weakness: Bring any animal toys with you to scare away the monkey.
Monkeys! Monkeys on the road! They are the King here.
If you want to feed the monkeys, there is always place to sell those food for monkeys. Only RM1.00 for long beans to be feed to the monkeys. Look at the top of the containers, a lion toys..Yes! it is use to scare away the monkeys.
Besides than the monkeys, there is a museum about the historical of Kuala Selangor for everyone who are interested and the admission is FREE.
Light house was placed there too, Not really sure whether it is still working.

Fish park- there are few types of fish placed there in the aquarium. I didn't took any photos of them. Besides, there is also some birds and rabbits which placed in the cages. Look at the photo above, nice sight seeing unfortunately the water was polluted..sadly to say that..

Fourth Station- Beach
We went to the beach at Kuala Selangor, not really sure about the name but it is sure one of the famous beach with people playing kites around there. To our curiosity about flying a kite, we bought a kite and turn the time back to our younger days.
Everyone was trying to fly the kite. We manage to fly as high as possible but when it touches my hand, everything just falling apart. I guess taking photos still my thing than ruin everyone's effort on making the kite fly high. ;)

Fifth Station: Dinner at Kedai Stemboat Kampung
Again we came to the same restaurant we had last year. We were actually planing to have dinner at one famous restaurant but it was full booked that day so we are force to come here again. It was said that the price is more expensive than any other restaurants around here but compare to KL, it is still consider cheap.

Coconut-RM3.00
Don't expect to find any nice coconut here, we were craving for coconut maybe due to the weather.

Tom Yam Prawn in Coconut-RM19.00
Due to the small coconut , they also provide a bowl of tom yam soup in case the soup is not enough from the coconut. The Tom Yam soup very thick, sour and spicy.Whoa..Nice!Just simply love it.

Fried Prawn Mantis with Kung Po-RM12.00
I can't said how nice it is any more but it is good. The prawn mantis is very fresh. All the seafood sold here are indeed very fresh.  The taste is strong, just suit for my taste.:)

Fried Belacan Kangkung-RM5.00

Fried Crayfish-RM35.00
Crayfish are freshwater crustaceans resembling from small lobsters. It is called 虾婆 in Chinese. We didn't know what is was when we ordered as it was suggested by my friend's cousin to try this dish. It was new to that village as he said. It is like prawn mantis, a bigger version. I'm not sure how it is cook because we said we want crayfish, the waitress did not ask for cooking method, we let her decide. But it came out to be great, just the meat in the crayfish really little.

Butter Cream Crab-RM42.00 (1 Kg)
I like this butter cream. The crabs were big size too, not those small small one that I ate in KL. Very good maybe it was very fresh. As I said before, all the seafood here are fresh because it is a fish village in Kuala Selangor.
Salted Egg Crab-RM45.00(1 Kg)
This not bad too, but a bit dry when it cook with salted egg. Can't really taste the salted egg except the outer layer of the shell. But this dish, they choose to use the female crab that have egg. Salted egg plus crab egg..this is a lot..
Deep Fried Squid-RM10
Did I see the price wrongly, no it is only RM10. At this price I can only find in hawker stall in Penang but this is a restaurant. It taste very crunchy on the outside and juicy. Within 5 minutes, clean plate!
